Process Paper

I really wanted to do a project on westward expansion but could not grasp the breaking barriers part of the project. I asked my parents for help. My mom came up with the moon landing and the Wright brothers. My dad came up with the Manhattan Project and I was intrigued because I didn’t know what it was about. I did a little bit of research online and decided that I wanted to do my project on the Manhattan Project. The making of the first nuclear bomb is really what caught my attention.

My teachers made a graphic organizer for all the students to use. I filled out the organizer then made my thesis. I looked at our school library to find books. I did a primary source search.  As it shows in my annotated bibliography, I didn’t use many things other than websites. My dad helped me find good sources to use. Pictures were helpful to see how destructive the bombs are.

I was showing my teacher my thesis and talking about my project. After talking to her about my presentation we agreed that a website would be best for this project. So that is what I decided to do. To create my website I had to figure out how to use NHDwebcentral. To do that I had to watch an hour-long video. At first, I had 3 pages my home page, my thesis page, and my Einstien’s letter page. Then I added my Breaking Barriers page. Last, I put in my annotated bibliography page and my process paper page.

The first barrier of the Manhattan Project was a knowledge barrier. Was it possible to split uranium to unleash energy in the form of a nuclear reaction, then to harness that energy into a manner that is portable enough to be used as a weapon. The final barrier that needed to be broken was to technically engineer the bomb within a timeframe that could still be utilized during WWII if it was determined the bomb would be needed.  The efforts of the Manhattan Project changed the course of history and mankind forever.
